The Missouri Southern Foundation, whose goal is to assist in the growth and advancement of Missouri Southern State University set aside a $700,000 donation toward scholarships for students accepted in the “Yours to Lose” program. The program allows up to 25 Missouri Southern students to be admitted into KCU’s new medical school. By following the prescribed curriculum, students can enter medical school early.

The donor of the $700,000 is Joplin Tomorrow. The goal of Joplin Tomorrow was to raise money and spur growth in Joplin Missouri. This donation will go a long way to further students looking to enter the medical practice.

In 2016, the median cost of attending a medical school is more than $200,000. Without educational grants or donations, students would must pay the fees out of pocket. According to The Institute of College Access and Success, the average undergraduate borrower is facing $30,100 in loans' post graduation.

The donation will provide scholarships to students, with the idea of reducing the debt load of their undergraduate degrees. By reducing the undergraduate debt, students may advance into medical school.

The University plans to open the KCU campus in Joplin with its first class of about 150 students in the fall of 2017.
